About

Mason graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Computer & Systems Engineering and Electrical Engineering. In school, he focused his studies on embedded systems engineering. Mason started his career designing and implementing medical devices, from "back of the napkin sketch" to complete device ready for regulatory submission. He is now with Amazon's Alexa Connect Kit (ACK) group creating connected smart home products that serve millions of customers around the world. In his free time, Mason enjoys rock climbing, photography, or anything else that takes him outside.

Gram Staining Device (GramPro3)

C | STM32 | Pneumatics | GUI

Managed project team of Computer, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers to develop an automated slide staining device capable of processing multiple samples simultaneously. Architected and implemented firmware for the device's fluid controls and GUI, including a novel UI management structure for bare metal embedded systems. Led client communication and resource allocation.

Large Volume Subcutaneous Drug Delivery Device

Co-led a team of over 20 engineers through the innovation and de-risk phases of development, leading to a successful design transfer to the client for design-controlled development. Architected and managed implementation of firmware for device and supporting tools, from breadboard prototypes to custom-designed systems demonstrating all desired device features. Leveraged technologies including RFID, LTE, BLE, battery management, pneumatics, and control systems. Advised newly formed client technical team on software development processes.

Cycling Name Tag

C++ | Arduino | eInk Display | 3D Printing

A DIY name tag that rotates through images on an Adafruit eInk display. Built with an Adafruit Feather 328P microcontroller and microSD card storage for image files. The device runs for ~12 hours on a single charge, making it ideal for conferences and recruiting events. Designed a 3D-printed enclosure with custom cutouts for USB connectivity and secure component mounting. Try making one for yourself!
